I was extremely lucky to work with A Cherry On Top and the British Council last week, on a job in Jamaica. A Cherry On Top has some beautiful British themed stilt costumes, based on the Union Jack design, which are perfect for representing Great Britain.
Four of us travelled to Kingston to perform at the British High Commission's open day to celebrate ties between Jamaica and the UK.
As part of our trip we engaged in a cultural exchange with local stilt walkers, and spoke with Dr L'Antoinette Stines, creator of L'Antech - a modern contemporary Caribbean dance technique. Because we found this so interesting, we decided to buy tickets to a Jamaica Dance Umbrella performance, where we saw pieces by Dr L'Antoinette's company, L'Acadco, and other companies from Barbados and Jamaica.
Previous events I have worn these costumes for have been a trip to the British Embassy in Moscow, also with the British Council; the royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and the Diamond Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II.
