Leyla and I went to Blackpool at the weekend to take part in Showzam, a festival which returns to the famous seaside town each February. This year the festival theme was circus and performance, so we got to see a few friends up there as well as the chance to perform in the beautiful Blackpool Tower Ballroom.
'Expect a night of fabulous performances from some of the world's unusual, exotic and glamorous artists in the opulent and delicious Blackpool Tower Ballroom.'
Starfiz opened the Carnival Ball, which fell on Valentines day, with our "romantic" and glamorous Moulin Rouge silks act. Starting with sensual and sultry choreography to Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's version of Nature Boy, the act builds to daring drops and glamorous choreography accompanied by the well known film version of Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend.
The night developed into ever more daring and unusual acts, hosted by the fabulous Jonny Woo. The audience saw a Black Swan dance on traffic cones, teeterboard acrobats in thongs and flaming nipple tassels in a night devoted to the New Romantics.
The Blackpool Gazette and altBlackpool wrote enthusiastic reviews of our aerial performance.
Bryan Donaldson from High Performance Productions rigged for us (having to climb onto the roof to do so!), and Serenity Performance kindly suggested Starfiz for the show.
