I am really looking forward to returning to my univeristy town to teach a day of silks in Falmouth next month!
Whilst studying English at Falmouth, I worked with Circo Kernow and Swamp Circus as a performer, teacher and choreographer. I still return to work with them regularly, travelling from London to teach in Falmouth, perform at the Eden Project and at a local events.
The classes on 26th October shall focus on giving students skills and knowledge which they can use in their ongoing training. I started the school year with teacher training at the National Centre for Circus Arts, where head of learning, Glen Stewart, taught NCCA teachers about injury prevention, the importance of global movements in workouts, correct posture for safe training, and we discussed ways to approach teaching aerial. I plan to teach next month's masterclass informed by this knowledge, looking at effective warm-up and conditioning exercises, stretches and releases specific to aerialists, and to give students the tools to explore aerial movement safely to create their own work. Plus some climbs and tricks of mine!
Below are a selection of images from aerial performances with Swamp Circus in Cornwall.
